Prolene - synthetic monofilament non-absorbable suture material
Synthetic monofilament non-absorbable suture material, available from Ethicon
(Johnson & Johnson).
Composition: Isotactic crystalline stereoisomer of polypropylene, synthetic linear polyolefin.
Application
- In all areas of surgery:
- Ligation and approximation of tissues
- hernioplasty
- operations on tendons
Characteristics
- The reaction of inflammation in the tissues is minimal
- Reliable fixation of the node
- Preservation of strength for many years
- The absence of a "memory effect"
It is recommended for use in places where the smallest reaction in tissues is desired. Also from this material are produced prolene meshes, which can be used to treat hernias, prolapse of genitals and other defects of the fascia requiring surgical strengthening of the walls.
